Great Article about Creating a Liberal Media...Finally!

Check out this article by Robert Parry from Consortium News, reprinted on AlterNet, entitled "The Time Has Come to Create a Real 'Liberal Media'". Many good points are made, and of course he's completely correct about the myth of the Liberal Media being, well...a myth. It just isn't so. The Media is about making money. There's no philosophy there, it just seems like the big businessmen who runs these companies all turn into corporate fascists (if they didn't start out that way) because they are, of course, purely motivated by profit, and they've discovered a huge right-wing audience out there.

Right-wing media got its glitz when Rush Limbaugh became a huge personality, and I think until the Left has someone as compelling to its potential audience as Limbaugh was to the Right's, we'll always lag behind.

Fortunately I believe we do have the perfect rising star, with all the right...um...correct qualities, to become our Liberal version of a Limbaugh, and that's Rachel Maddow. She's got it all -- brains, telegenic (which Limbaugh isn't, so she can do radio and TV) plus she's funny, and comedy is something that the Left surely can claim as its own. We all need to support her, watch her MSNBC show, listen to her Air America broadcast, and spread the word about this delightful real Liberal media personality. (I don't mean to slight her MSNBC colleague Keith Olbermann, who is always terrific, too. They both rock!).

I've added links to The Daily Kos, Democracy Now! and Link TV in our sidebar, three consistently good sources for Liberal news and outlook that we should all be checking out on a regular basis. It's up to each of us to support these alternative outlets to the traditional and often biased and even downright crappy news sources.

Read the article -- it will get you thinking!

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Speaks With Obama!

I'm going to send you over to The Huffington Post for this short article and a couple of videos of MSNBC personality Rachel Maddow -- we love her! -- who was at Barack Obama's rally in Florida last evening.

The enlightened and appealing Maddow's star has been rising this political season, her ratings lately bumping up as high as CNN's venerable Larry King, and she deserves it! She's a fresh face, a ferocious mind and with enough humor and charm to sell it to the viewers -- and by "it" I mean her smart take on politics with a brilliantly liberal point-of-view. We need it!

Congratulations to Paul Krugman on his Nobel Prize!

Our heartiest congrats to economist Paul Krugman for his newly-announced win of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences! In addition to his well-deserved win, Krugman is also a professor of Economics at Princeton University and the mind behind one of our favorite blogs, The Conscience of a Liberal, which he writes for The New York Times.

In addition to all that, he's a frequent and very welcome guest expert on television, and never fails to give brilliant observations while at the same time displaying a charming wry sense of humor that makes you laugh even as he's leading you unerringly to facing the grim truth of things. To prove my point, here are a couple of his appearances, first on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show, and then in a clip which we've featured before, from HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, from about three weeks ago. Of course, he's a little more amusing on Maher's show, but he has such an approachable demeanor no matter what, and is able to talk about economics in a way that assures us that this guy knows his stuff, and how. He's great:

Let's see. A brilliant guy, the perfect choice, just won something important and world-shaking. Might this be a good sign for us? I'm crossing my fingers.

Watch! Read Paul Krugman! Appreciate that America has such minds as this! Volunteer for Obama/Biden!!!

Rachel Maddow is Smokin'!

Hope you've been able to catch MSNBC's new The Rachel Maddow Show. Rachel is strikingly intelligent, articulate, and incredibly entertaining --a tremendously exciting addition to the liberal television scene. AlterNet has a terrific article on this gutsy gal's rise to deserved prominence -- read it and then resolve never to miss her show again! She's also on Air America radio, so seek her out there, too!

In case you haven't seen her on-air yet, here's a clip from her show, exposing McCain's ties with lobbyists via a clandestine meeting with...well, watch the clip! You'll enjoy it!

Check out the full story behind this clip here.

Maddow is clearly a sparkling addition to television's political coverage landscape. She couldn't have come along at a better time. Boy, do we need her! Be sure to tell all your friends about her shows! MSNBC has video, transcripts and other material relating to The Rachel Maddow Show on their website, so check it out!

Rachel Maddow on MSNBC

Much-lauded liberal commentator (Air America) Rachel Maddow will be getting a regular slot on MSNBC beginning September 8th, with many appearances until then, including covering the conventions. This is a great move; Maddow is smart, concise and will make MSNBC an even better alternative to Fox News' right-wing slant. Her slot will follow Countdown with Keith Olbermann in primetime. (Many years ago when I worked in TV in Los Angeles Keith was the sports guy for our station; have you read The New Yorker's article on him?)
